Short Description

A Herc Network Engineer provides technical expertise in the oversight of a public and/or private network and public switched telephone networks. A Network Engineer plans, designs, installs, maintains, monitors, analyzes, troubleshoots, modifies and supports network communications systems to provide maximum performance and as well as evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance network capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for configuration, implementation, and support for network installations as necessary.
  • Provide network support and troubleshooting network solutions for an enterprise network.
  • Work with customers, vendors, and technical teams to prospect and develop network design, installation, and support opportunities.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule and providing on-call assistance, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Provide engineering level support for incident and problem management.
  • Regularly monitor network performance.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation as it relates to network technologies, network topology, network equipment, and configurations. 
  • Ability to document standards, methods and produce drawings of environments.
  • Attend and actively contribute to technical staff meetings.
  • Participate in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/or on-call availability.
  • Provide timely and accurate status updates to customer contacts and management.
  • Provide engineering support for problems identified within multiple systems or applications and will act as an escalation point for service desk, managed services, and other support
  • Demonstrate active participation in Herc Rentals Safety Culture, always prioritizing the safety of team members and customers alike

  • Learn and follow all company procedures and protocols

Requirements

    Professional Experience

    • 5+ or more years of Network implementation experience
    • Cisco CCNA or similar Certifications
    • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
    • Experience maintaining network performance through network monitoring and analysis, QoS service implementation, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems
    • Comprehensive understanding of network services and network routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP)
    • In-depth understanding and practical knowledge of networking systems such as firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless APs
    • Solid understanding of IP routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)
    • Cisco ASA, Routing, Switching, QoS, Meraki WAP, SolarWinds Monitoring
    • TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VPN, DMVPN, SDWAN
    • Experience with LAN hardware including patch panels, Fiber Optic, Cat5e and Cat 6 wiring
    • A strong working knowledge of technologies surrounding a network infrastructure
    • Experience supporting IP Telephony, Linux, Microsoft Server, Windows, and SolarWinds monitoring tools
    • Knowledge of carrier services and interfaces
    • Working knowledge of Cisco UCS and VMware virtual environments

    Educational Background

    • A bachelor's degree is required
