Summary of Role

Herc Rentals is looking for a Senior Manager, Digital Engineering with a passion for proposing and creating new innovative solutions to join our team. This position will lead others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional, and program interfaces. This position will ensure the implementation and support of leading-edge digital platforms to achieve business objectives, while responsible for delivering cutting-edge mobile capability across the enterprise for our customers and produce innovative solutions that differentiate us from our competitors.  This role will lead analyses to optimize platform architecture, reliability, maintainability, testability, vulnerability, system security, and other quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure platform success. This role will lead digital development teams, ensuring we develop unique technological solutions and manage the stability of production applications, services, and processes specific to digital platforms.


Additionally, the Senior Manager, Digital Engineering will partner closely with teams within Information Technology, as well as within the broader organization, to understand business needs, and ensure strategic alignment with organizational goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will have a passion for solving complex problems and driving digital solutions.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead a highly skilled team to transform existing front and back-end architecture into a platform that can support a suite of applications and services.
  • Enact a strategic plan for developing and empowering team members with processes that result in improvements to code quality, security, efficiency, velocity, and systems, and engineering processes is integral in the role.
  • Collaborate closely with the product management team to deliver products and platforms which accelerate delivery while fostering an environment which allows for a test and learn culture.
  • Lead the effort to build the right resource plan comprised of a mix of team members, contract, and offshore labor to drive effectiveness and efficiency

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science or related field

Experience & Background

  • 10+ years of demonstrated success leading teams to architect, develop and maintain complex consumer and business-to-business web products and mobile applications.
  • Experience with telematics, fleet management, and in-store technologies using modern lean/agile product development techniques.
  • Technical leadership, including application architecture design, code reviews, release responsibilities, production support, etc.
  • Experience with package solutions for CMS, PIM, OMS, and commerce such as Adobe, Salesforce, SAP, and others. 
  • Hands on experience with custom application development
  • A great blend of technology, strategic thinking, business drive, and a strong track record of bringing great new products to market, while building and developing a highly capable, driven team.
  • We're focused on transforming the equipment rental industry via the use of technology, so doing all the above on-time, on-budget, and in a way that drives value for our customers and organization is critical.
  • Experience leading multi-site (onshore and offshore), and multi-product engineering and solution architecture teams across a diverse technology landscape.
  • Strong leadership, people and change management, communication and analytical skills.
  • Strong experience in a high availability, high transaction environment with focus on credit card/payment processing where security and PCI compliance are essential.
  • Strong understanding of modern platform architectures and emerging technologies.
  • Experience with managing a complex portfolio of products and ability to optimize resource allocation based on platform strategy, product goals and business goals.
  • Experience building, scaling, managing integration platforms and APIs.
  • Experience evolving monolithic systems into modern micro service architectures.
  • Solid understanding of engineering and code architecture fundamentals and coding best practices with ability to review full-stack code using modern frameworks and quickly learn unfamiliar technologies.
  • Hands on technical experience with AWS and Cloud Technologies
