Short Description

The Voice Engineer is a technical position responsible for performing various work functions in support of the Herc Rentals voice network. This position will require an in-depth technical knowledge to facilitate the install and management of the Cisco VoIP phone system and associated components. This will include the high-level input on system architecture and design changes, analysis and resolution of system hardware, software, and networking issues. 

Along with this knowledge, it is imperative that the incumbent understands Herc Rental’s business goals and management’s objectives and priorities.  The incumbent collaborates to develop solutions and processes for supporting the large and diverse user community’s needs within the constraints of the business requirements and Infrastructure Services Portfolio of offerings.   

Responsible for day-to-day management of the Accou

  • Responsible for configuration, implementation, and support for VoIP installations as necessary 
  • Provide Voice over Internet Protocol support and troubleshooting VoIP solutions for an enterprise network 
  • Work with customer, vendors and technical teams to prospect and develop Cisco Unified Communications design, installation, and support opportunities  
  • Maintaining an established work schedule and providing on-call assistance, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays 
  • Provide Engineering level support for incident and problem management  
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation as it relates to telephony technologies, video conferencing, network topology, network equipment, and configuration(s). Ability to document standards, methods and produce drawings of environments. 
  • Attend and actively contribute to technical staff meetings 
  • Participate in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/or on-call availability 
  • Provide timely and accurate status updates to customer contacts and management 
  • Conduct user training as required 
  • Provide level 3 Support for problems identified within systems. Will act as an escalation for Level 1 and Level 2 support.

    Professional Experience

    Experience with large-scale Cisco Unified Communications and Collaboration solutions including design, implementation and support
    5+ years’ experience maintaining Cisco Communication Manager (CUCM), Unity Connection, IM & Presence, UCCX, Cisco WebEx, and Expressway products
    5+ years’ experience maintaining network performance through network monitoring and analysis, QoS service implementation, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems
    Experience with Call Manager, Unity/Unity Connections, and Unified Contact Center
    Experience on Cisco CUBE ASR and ISR’s for SIP Trunking with Service Providers
    Experience with Enhanced 911, Cisco Emergency Responder
    Experience with advanced Cisco router/switch configuration
    Understanding of UC & Network Protocols: SIP, MGCP, ISDN, DHCP, VLAN, CDP, LLDP
    Knowledge of Video Conferencing, TelePresence, and WebEx solutions
    Knowledge of call recording solutions and integration with Cisco UCM
    Knowledge of Cisco System Installation and Patch Management across a multi-site environment
    Knowledge of carrier services and interfaces
    Working knowledge of UC and SolarWinds monitoring tools

    Educational Background

    BA/BS University degree with a concentration in Information Technology

    Conditions of Employment
