Short Description

The Field Construction Manager, HERC, is responsible for the field coordination of on-site construction activities for regional corporate facilities. This role coordinates with the Manager Corporate Facilities and acts as the main point of contact for all day-to-day on-site and field activities during construction of new facilities. The principal objective is to ensure service delivery is to a quality standard, delivered in a consistent manner and appropriate to business need. Manage on-site general contractors, third party suppliers and vendors installing equipment, IT and phone installations, and oversee sign installations. Construction activities specifically include providing project management services for the design and construction of showroom facility renovations and new greenfield projects. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor and oversee construction schedules for all project activities including GC work, IT, security, signs, fleet, tank and fueling equipment installations, and city inspections.
  • Coordinate weekly conference calls for coordination of all construction and field activities and complete weekly meeting minutes to document and track responsible parties and critical due dates.
  • Schedule and coordinate temporary storage and security of any equipment, tools, and materials received prior to opening of a location.
  • Liaise with business units to confirm consistency in delivery and occupant needs are met.
  • Pro-actively develop and upgrade standards of delivery to maintain leading edge approach.
  • Ensure business units are supported through appropriate delivery
  • Initial site visits to survey new and existing locations for work scope definition to determine design requirements
  • Assist with bidding of renovation and/or greenfield plans by holding on-site pre-bid meetings with contractors and suppliers as necessary.
  • Travel to the construction sites, ensuring Herc Rentals standards are being followed, and defined project goals and objectives are met. 
  • Manage the implementation, schedule and quality of the construction during renovations for assigned projects working with Regional Operation Managers (ROMs) and the Manager of Corporate Facilities as required.
  • Create and update a master project schedule for all greenfield sites and facility renovations for the calendar year.
  • Ensure the service providers deliver their contracted service levels to the standards required.
  • Assist in selecting general contractors and suppliers to bid through pre-qualification process. 
  • Manage build-to-suit developers construction of major capital improvement projects (i.e. greenfield sites, major renovations).

Professional Experience

Excellent understanding of buildings and systems and the complex nature of their operation
Extensive hands on experience of building and site construction, repair and maintenance
Financial and business acumen and a track record of managing large projects and or contracts
Good understanding of environmental considerations as they relate to the built environment, legislative requirements etc
General understanding of building codes, ordinances, and zoning laws

Conditions of Employement

  • A minimum of two years in a similar or related role in a building construction project management role with property and/or portfolio management capacity
  • Hands-on experience dealing with large properties or property portfolios, with substantial and diverse capital investment, energy management and preventive/reactive maintenance program management experience a plus
  • Must be able to travel 50-55%

Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, degree in a business-related discipline or relevant work experience

Compensation Data

$80,000 - $120,000
