Job Purpose

Herc Rentals is seeking a hands-on Fleet Mechanic to support the maintenance and repair of a diverse truck fleet operating from our Finch location. This is primarily a shop-based role (100%), responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and upfitting work on pickup trucks, Ford F-550/F-750s, and other fleet vehicles.

What you will do...

  • Follow a consistent and regular schedule to perform various types of maintenance on heavy equipment, construction equipment and various pieces of machinery at various job sites
  • Repair assorted heavy equipment as required to ensure proper operating condition.
  • Disassembles engines and reassembles after a thorough examination.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and propane systems.
  • Conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services.
  • Recondition and replace assorted parts of the heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools and equipment.
  • Diagnoses problem areas for any significant wear or tear on the equipment.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner.
  • Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs.
  • Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols.
  • Build positive relationships with customers.

Skills

  • Willing to learn, grow, and take on new responsibilities.
  • Comfortable working in a non-traditional mechanic role that includes supporting overall fleet operations.
  • Able to adapt during busy spring and fall seasons when maintenance, inspections, and plow upfitting/de-fitting activities overlap.
  • Team player who is willing to roll up their sleeves and help wherever needed.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and a "do whatever it takes" attitude.
  • Interested in long-term career growth as the fleet continues to transition from light-duty to heavier equipment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Fleet Mechanic, Truck Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or similar role.
  • 310T License preferred; candidates actively pursuing their license or interested in obtaining it are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on fleet vehicles.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic systems, auxiliary equipment, and plow equipment considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervisionStrong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to winter equipment breakdowns when required.
  • Comfortable working occasional overtime during peak seasons.
  • Ability to work in a hands-on, team-oriented environment where responsibilities extend beyond mechanical work
  • Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) considered an asset.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Experience with vehicle upfitting and modifications, including:
    • Dump boxes
    • Flat decks
    • Bucket trucks
    • Chassis modifications
    • Towing and equipment support vehicles.

Pay Range: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
