Job Purpose
At Herc Rentals, safety is not a slogan, it is a core value embedded in everything we do. We are committed to sending every employee, contractor, and customer home safely, every day.
The Industrial Safety Manager is the primary safety liaison between Herc Rentals and its industrial partners including refineries, petrochemical plants, power generation facilities, and heavy manufacturing sites. This role drives full regulatory compliance, proactive hazard mitigation, and a culture of safety excellence across our industrial operations.
This is a strategic, field-facing role that partners with both internal operations and external customers to support contractor pre-qualification, joint safety initiatives, data-driven decision making, and long-term account retention.
This role requires up to 80% travel to industrial customer sites, Herc Rentals branches, and regional facilities across the Greater Houston area and Gulf Coast corridor. Must be able to work in outdoor industrial environments in varying weather conditions, wear full PPE (safety helmet, glasses, safety-toed boots, flame-resistant clothing), climb ladders, work at heights, and navigate active job sites.
What you will do...
Safety Program Development and Regulatory Compliance
- Implement and continuously improve Herc Rentals' Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) in alignment with OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and other applicable regulatory bodies.
- Ensure proper utilization of site-specific programs (e.g., LOTO, Hot Work Permits).
- Evaluate federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, and conduct internal audits, inspections, and gap analyses across branch locations and customer job sites.
Industrial Partner Collaboration and Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted safety advisor to refinery, petrochemical, power generation, and heavy industrial clients.
- Establish collaborative safety relationships with customers.
- Assist with contractor pre-qualification through platforms such as ISNetworld, Avetta, and Veriforce, and participate in customer safety meetings, toolbox talks, and joint incident investigations.
- Represent Herc Rentals at industry forums (e.g., AFPM, AIChE, GCCA) and support Sales and Operations during proposals, RFP responses, and contract negotiations.
- Conduct incident investigations and effectively present findings to industrial customers.
Training and Safety Culture Development
- Promote Herc Rentals' training platform offerings and collaborate with the local Safety Training team.
- Build safety competency across branch-level Safety Champions and operations staff.
- Participate in Safety Stand-Downs, awareness campaigns, and recognition programs to reinforce a culture of incident reduction.
- Incident Management, Data Analytics and Root Cause Analysis
- Lead and participate in incident investigations including near-misses, first aid, recordable injuries, property damage, and process safety events using structured methodologies such as TapRooT® and 5-Why analysis.

Risk Assessment and Hazard Management
- Conduct and facilitate Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Pre-Task Planning (PTP), and Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs).
- Assess and reduce risks associated with high-hazard activities including electrical systems, high-pressure environments, and hazardous materials.
Contractor and Vendor Safety Management
- Support Herc Rentals' contractor safety pre-qualification and ongoing performance monitoring programs in alignment with the Safety and Health Governance team.
- Partner with HR, Operations, and Risk stakeholders to guide safety-related behaviors, recommend corrective actions, and support claims reviews.
